8 Feedly alternatives, sorted by what you actually want.

Most lists rank readers by feature count. That is not how anyone chooses one. These are sorted by the problem you are trying to solve — including the case where the right answer is to stay on Feedly.

Short answer Pick by the job, not the feature list.

Monitoring an industry: stay on Feedly. Want the noise muted for good: that is what this list is really about.

The eight

The eight, and who each one is for.

One of these is ours. We have said which, and tried to describe the other seven the way their own users would. Where we have not verified a current price, we describe what the product is for instead of guessing a number.

1. Inoreader
The most capable rule engine of the bunch — if you want filters that branch, tag and route, this is the one. The cost is that the power lives behind rules you have to build and maintain. Full comparison →
2. NewsBlur
Trains what to show you source by source, with an open-source core and a long-running independent developer behind it. Good if you like teaching a tool; slower if you just want a word gone everywhere. Full comparison →
3. Feedbin
Clean, fast, well-maintained, and unapologetically paid. If you want the tidiest classic reader and do not need heavy filtering, Feedbin is a fine place to land. Full comparison →
4. NetNewsWire
Free, open source, and genuinely native on Mac and iOS. No accounts, no server, no subscription — it syncs through a service you already use. Filtering is minimal by design.
5. FreshRSS
You run it, you own it, it costs nothing but a server. The right answer if hosting your own is the point. Not the right answer if you want to be reading in two minutes.
6. Google News
Free and effortless, because it decides. That is the trade: no sources to add, and no real say in what surfaces or what disappears. Full comparison →
7. Readwise Reader
Built for saving, highlighting and revisiting — a read-it-later and study tool more than a daily feed. Excellent at that job, aimed at a different one.
8. Muuted
Ours, so read it with that in mind: chronological feed of sources you pick, mute a word or topic once and it is gone everywhere, and every hidden story stays one tap from coming back. Free tier includes muting rather than paywalling it. Full comparison →
If the noise is the problem

If your problem is the noise, not the reader.

Plenty of people leave Feedly not because it is slow or ugly, but because the same story, the same team, the same running argument keeps arriving and there is no clean way to say enough. That is a filtering problem, and it is worth checking how a reader handles it before you migrate.

Does muting apply everywhere?

Muting a word in one feed and not the other twelve is not muting. Ask whether a rule is global by default.

Can you see what it hid?

A filter you cannot audit is one you will quietly stop trusting. There should be a list of what was caught, and a way to bring any of it back.

Is filtering on the free tier?

Several readers treat filtering as the upsell. That is a fair business choice, but it means you cannot test the thing you are actually there for.

The honest version

When you should just stay on Feedly.

We would rather you stayed and were happy than switched and were not. See the fuller head-to-head at Muuted vs Feedly.

You monitor an industry

Tracking competitors, briefing a team, watching a market — that is what Feedly was built for, and its AI assistant earns its keep there.

Your team lives in it

Shared boards and team workflows are a real feature set. Do not trade a working team process for a cleaner personal feed.

It is already quiet

If your feed does not annoy you, the best reader is the one you have already set up. Switching costs an afternoon.

Questions

FAQ

Can I move my Feedly sources somewhere else?

Yes. Feedly exports OPML, and every reader on this list imports it. Export once, import once, and your subscriptions come with you. Muuted also exports OPML back out, so moving on again is never a fight.

Which of these is free?

NetNewsWire and FreshRSS are free outright (FreshRSS needs a server you run). Google News is free and ad-supported. Muuted has a free tier that includes muted words rather than holding filtering back for a paid plan. Inoreader, NewsBlur, Feedbin and Readwise Reader all have paid tiers for their fuller feature sets.

Is Feedly actually bad?

No, and any list that says so is selling you something. Feedly is a strong product with a real team behind it, and for monitoring an industry or feeding research to a team it is very good at its job. The question is whether that is your job. See our fuller Feedly comparison for where the two of us differ.

What should I pick if I just want the noise gone?

Look for muting that works across every source at once, and for a way to see what got hidden. A filter you cannot audit is a filter you stop trusting. That is the thing we built Muuted around, and it is the honest reason this page exists.

If the noise is the problem

Try the one built around muting.

Free to start, muted words included on the free tier, and your sources import from Feedly by OPML in one step.
