Muuted speaks the Hacker News API natively — and follows Lobsters, GitHub, Stack Overflow, DEV and arXiv as first-class sources. Read the comment thread on any story without leaving your feed, see when an article from any of your sources is being discussed on HN, and follow HN Best, a user, or a keyword like any other source — with your own mute rules on top of all of it.
Stories from Hacker News wear a small comment-count pill. Tap it and the whole discussion opens in a sheet inside Muuted — threaded, indented, readable, with the author and age on every comment and a link out to HN if you want to reply. No new tab, no losing your place in the feed.
Replies nest the way they do on HN, so the argument structure survives the trip.
Counts load only as cards approach your screen — a feed full of HN stories costs nothing until you scroll to it.
The lookup is not limited to stories that came from Hacker News. A BBC piece, a Nature paper, a blog post from your own subscriptions — if it has a real discussion on HN, the card says “HN · 48 comments” and one tap opens the thread. Quiet threads stay quiet: the pill only appears when there is an actual conversation worth reading.
Type any of these where you would paste a source address, and it joins your feed like everything else:
hn: best — the top-voted stories of the last few days, not the churn of the new page.
hn: @tptacek — one person’s submissions as a feed. Pasting their HN profile link works too.
hn: rust — new HN stories matching a topic you care about, and only that topic.
